GLASS ACT: FINE ART FOR THE BATHROOM
There’s no material quite like glass. It can be hard and substantial, yet it can also mimic the soft appearance of undulating water or the diaphanous lightness of a cloud. And nothing else yields such variety of color, translucency and texture in the hands of the artisan. At Kohler, our exquisite one-of-a-kind bathroom sinks are inspired by generations of artisans who have crafted many of the sculptures and vessels found in the world’s great museums. The result is pure art in a wide range of shapes, sizes, and forms.
BEAUTY BEYOND THE TABLE
Kohler uses the same techniques that gave the world the beautifully detailed dinnerware of Wedgewood and Spode to create elegantly patterned fixtures for the bathroom, including bathroom sinks and modern toilet seats, even faucet handles.
That beauty belies a surprising toughness. Like the dinnerware with which it shares a lineage, the Artist Editions bathroom sinks are exceedingly durable. Just as dinnerware is engineered to stand up to a lifetime of punishment from cutlery and thousands of cycles through dishwashers, the Kohler Artist Editions decorated bathroom sinks are made to look amazing for many years to come.
THE PATTERNS OF THE WORLD
Kohler creates designs inspired by a wealth of different cultures, countries and artistic traditions for the Artist Editions series.
If a design is intended for use on more than one product, it must be designed to be adaptable to each product’s specific surface and geometry, from an oval shape bathroom sink to a round sink to a rectangular bathroom basin. This requires fracturing the pattern into a collection of puzzle pieces that the decorators will expertly fit together and hand-apply to the sink’s surface.
Multicolored designs intensify the process. Some designs require as many as 15 different color layers composited together to accurately reproduce the original design. Once the decorator has faithfully translated the chosen pattern on the desired base ware, the piece is ready for production.
